FOREWORD

Pam Peters, author of the "Cambridge Guide to English Usage " once said: "There's something in the slogan that taps into an Australian love of understatement. It's a subtle and oblique way of registering one's displeasure without waving a flag. It also has that mark of authenticity that comes with fragments. After all, we often speak in fragments."

Sometimes we even find ourselves spitting chips...

ACTION

Natural setting, party atmosphere.
CAMERA APPROACHES and is waved to by some guests; checked out by others.
Kids are chasing each other around and blowing gum. Happy people, swinging and swigging to the music.

CAMERA GOES STRAIGHT TO THE BAR
and is offered a tinny from the eski.

CU steaks sizzling. Hand with tongs comes in from top right, and takes a steak off the barby.
Flying camera follows the steak, while pulling back slightly to reveal tattooed "Rick" putting it on to a plate.

RICK'S BIG FRIENDLY SMILE: "Gidday" Missing teeth. In the background, we see some dancing clones of Angry Anderson, Peter Garrett, a few Kylies, and of course CHOPPER REED, who's looking a bit shifty because he hadn't really been invited. He seems to be working it out with a toothpick...

LITTLE GIRL skips past and beckons us to follow. Real homely. Family gathering. Champers. Could be a wedding: everyone's smiling, singing or eating.
CAMERA DISCOVERS MANY TOOTHLESS PEOPLE TRYING TO CHEW THE MEAT.

PRETTY (toothless) GIRLS, all sing one line each, as in "WE are the world, WE are the people...".
One has headphones... it must be a clip

ETHNIC groups - the toothless joy of a smiling Chinaman

GROUP SHOT 7 people, arm-in-arm, unite around barby for last line. Everyone is beaming a gummy smile.

VOICEOVER:
"Come to Australia: the Land of the Rotting Teeth"

CAMERA approaches and fixes on the smiling face of LITTLE indigenous GIRL. Wonderful pearly whites.

TEXT OVERLAY & VOICEOVER
"TOOTH DECAY LEADS TO PAIN, UNPOPULARITY AND HEART DISEASE"

TEXT PANEL bounces down to cover. Also spoken.
VOTE 1 NOW! For ANYONE who will GIVE US BACK OUR SMILE.

ANGLE

I'll be able to play in this clip myself, because the Dental Hospital removed many of my teeth when I was a student.
